There are times when you want a romance but find the work of meeting someone and adjusting to them a hassle. There's a game people turn to for filling that fluttering feeling. It's Love and Deepspace. Let me be clear first.
This is not a game where you date real people. It's a virtual romance simulation where you date five male leads inside the game. Even so, let's look through a beginner's eyes at why so many people fall for it.
✦ Love and Deepspace at a Glance
Mobile 3D otome romance simulation
Love and Deepspace is a mobile game made by Papergames of Shanghai, China, and run outside China by Infold Games. It launched worldwide at the same time on January 18, 2024, including Korea, and you can play it on Android and iPhone.
It supports Korean, and in Korea you can download it straight from Google Play. The genre is a 3D otome romance simulation mixed with real-time action combat.
Story is the core of the game. Full voice acting and animated cutscenes carry your story with the male leads, and in between you fight monsters called Wanderers in real-time combat alongside them.
You can customize your protagonist's appearance, and there's even a feature that scans your face photo to make an avatar. For daily-life content there is a home system with cooking, crafts, and gardening, plus photos and claw machines.
The center of the romance is a card called a Memory. When you pull a Memory, content like the male lead's ASMR voice lines or an animated date opens up.
There are also bond dates where the story branches on your choices, so the fun is big in how the male lead reacts to the answer you picked. In real life you have to put in the effort of adjusting to someone, while in the game you only do as much as you want.
✦ The Five Male Leads
Jobs and powers
So who are the male leads? Xavier is a space hunter and wields the power of light. Zayne is a cardiac surgeon with the power of ice, and Rafayel is an artist who wields fire.
Sylus is the leader of a criminal organization with the power of energy, and Caleb is a colonel in the Farspace Fleet with the power of gravity. Their jobs and vibes are all different, so who you're drawn to depends on your taste.
The Korean voice actors are Min Seung-woo for Xavier, Ryu Seung-gon for Sylus, and Jeong Ju-won for Caleb.
✦ Male Leads and Updates, in Order
Timeline
The game launched with three of them, Xavier, Zayne, and Rafayel. Sylus joined in the 2.0 update on July 15, 2024, and Caleb was added on January 22, 2025, in the second part of the 3.0 update, making the five we have now.
The 6.0 update on July 9, 2026 turned the home system into Home 2.0 and brought an AR photo booth. As updates continue, the story and daily-life content keep piling up.
You should also know that these five are all there is. On June 22, 2026, a sixth male lead, Valko, was revealed, but after a fan backlash he was officially canceled on June 30.
The operator said it would not add new love interests and would focus on the existing five.
✦ Popularity by the Numbers
Based on reports
The popularity shows in numbers too. Pre-registrations passed 15 million at launch, and around the second anniversary in January 2026 it was reported that the number of players worldwide had passed 80 million.
At Gamescom 2025 it won the Best Mobile Game award, reportedly the first time a female-oriented game received it.
According to estimates by market research firm AppMagic, player spending on Google Play and the Apple App Store over its first two years came to about $933.7 million.
That's how many people and how much money gathered around romance with characters, not real people.
✦ Player Gender Ratio Sources
No official statistics
The player base leans heavily one way. AFP reported in March 2025, citing third-party surveys, that 5 to 10% of the people playing this game are male. According to Sensor Tower data, women make up over 65% of players in Japan.
There's no official gender ratio statistic and the ranges differ, so all you need to know is that female players are overwhelmingly many. (Is there a man who also wants to date the male leads...? Heh heh♡)
✦ Where Players Interact
Inside and outside the game
So how do players interact with each other? Inside the game there are no features like guilds, chat, or co-op, and even if you add friends, all you do is swap stamina. There's a ranking where you compete on score, and that's about it.
Instead, people gather outside the game. On DCInside's minor galleries, people share card-order guides for each male lead and story information, and on Postype fan-made derivative works are posted.
It's a place where people who like the same male lead talk with each other.
✦ Who Is This Game For?
Fits and non-fits
The kind of person this game suits is clear. It's someone who misses the feeling of romance but doesn't want to spend energy meeting a new person and adjusting to them, someone who loves getting lost in a story and a voice.
On the other hand, for someone who wants to meet a real partner, this game is not the answer. That's because it isn't a structure where players connect with each other. Starting lightly as a way to recharge the flutter is the healthiest way to enjoy this game.
To sum up, Love and Deepspace is a game that takes the hassle of adjusting to someone out of real life and lets you enjoy only the flutter.
But it is not a game that connects you with real people, so you have to fill the wish to meet a partner separately, outside the game. For now, just check which of the five you're drawn to.
Well then, shall we begin today's adventure?
