Marriage in Lineage? It's a game famous for blood pledges clashing, castles being seized, and users killing each other in competition, as much as for hunting monsters and fitting out gear.
Yet with the September 2026 update, Lineage Classic now has a marriage system too. You prepare rings, propose at the cathedral, and after marrying, you can even teleport to your spouse.
But marriage in Lineage is closer to a political marriage in real life: one more practical device added to a relationship of hunting and fighting together. Let's first look at what kind of game Lineage is.
Lineage of 1998, Again in 2026..!
✦ Lineage Classic at a Glance
The original and the Classic edition
The original Lineage is an online game that has been in service since 1998. Lineage Classic is a PC MMORPG built on the early-2000s version of that original, and it launched in Korea and Taiwan in February 2026.
At the start, it opened familiar areas like Talking Island, Dragon Valley, and Giran, and began with four classes: Prince, Knight, Elf, and Wizard.
At launch, it was free to play for four days from February 7, and it switched to a monthly subscription on February 11. The monthly fee announced at the time was 29,700 won.
People crowded in starting from character creation. When pre-creation of characters began, NC said the prepared servers filled up early so it added servers one after another, and in its January 22 announcement it listed 25 servers in total.
That's how many memories of countless users who played around 2000 are packed into a game called "Lineage."
In Lineage, someone you meet at a hunting ground could become a rival, and conversely, someone you helped once could become a blood pledge comrade. Lineage Classic is a work that tries to recreate the era when such relationships were at the center of the game.
Which Class Should You Pick When Starting?
✦ Classes Compared
The four starting classes
There are four classes to choose from when making a character.
The Knight is a melee warrior who fights up close, the Elf uses ranged attacks including bows plus spirit magic, the Wizard handles combat with spells, and the Prince specializes in forming and leading a blood pledge.
If you want to learn the basics hunting monsters alone, it's reasonable to look at the Knight or Elf first. If you like fighting up close and holding your ground, the Knight; if you like shooting a bow from a distance, the Elf suits you.
The Wizard has to pay attention to MP management and has low health, so it dies easily.
✦ Blood Pledge Requirements
Only a Prince can found one
The Prince is a class with a clear purpose: leading a blood pledge. It's truly a unique class in Lineage.
In a game where a difference of 1 in a stat makes a huge gap, it's a really unusual class that has to give up some combat ability to raise the number of pledge members it can command.
A Prince can found a blood pledge at level 5 or higher, but it's not a class that grows smoothly alone. The Prince is absolutely not recommended as a first class.
The Key to Meeting People in Lineage Is the Blood Pledge
To understand Lineage's relationship systems, you have to know the blood pledge first. A blood pledge isn't just a list of friends who hunt together.
It has joining procedures, ranks, and shared activities, and as you grow it connects to content like siege warfare, where you compete over castles.
If you're looking for new friends, you could also form parties with players you meet while hunting, but in Lineage the blood pledge is the best route for forming bonds with other users.
Troubles That Came with the Romance of a Legend
Saying 'just like the old days' doesn't make the inconveniences romantic too.
Lineage Classic tried to revive the feel of manual hunting, but after opinions about leveling fatigue came up, it introduced "ATS," an auto-play support system usable in certain areas.
It provided 3 hours a day by default, and you could set things like potion use, hunting range, and returning when health is low. Think of it as an official macro provided by the operator.
✦ Operational Issues Timeline
From the subscription start to the clean campaign
But the Lineage series traditionally has many characters called "workshops." They're people who aren't interested in playing the game, who create many characters to collect currency and sell it for cash, effectively using the game as a way to make money.
Macros and abnormal accumulation of currency led to real operational issues.
NC said it permanently sanctioned about 150,000 abnormal accounts in April 2026, and in its October 7 notice announced that from the September clean campaign through October 6 it carried out about 4.34 million actions under its operating policy.
Even though the operator now names multi-account play and unfair currency accumulation as targets for enforcement, problems around the in-game economy and fair hunting grounds remain.
In a game where bloody competition with people is settled neatly with money rather than flashy control, it would be almost impossible for "workshops" to disappear.
How Do You Get Married?
✦ Introducing the Marriage System
The new marriage system in Lineage Classic
Now let's look at the newly added marriage system. Two characters each hold a wedding ring, face each other in front of the podium at the Aden Cathedral, and type '/청혼' in the chat window.
An acceptance window appears for the other person, and if they accept, the marriage is established. Under the current official rules, marriage is between characters of different genders.
The ring isn't just a wedding prop. The two married characters can use the ring to teleport to their spouse, and the default number of uses is 5. You can recharge the uses by donating 5,000 Adena to Eriel, the priestess of love.
However, you can only teleport when your spouse is in a place you can remember.
While marriage ceremonies in other MMORPGs feel like memory-making content or content to deepen immersion, what's unique about Lineage Classic's wedding ring is that it's a means of travel you can use when going out hunting or fighting together.
It's a really practical gift. If in real life you got married, were given a wedding ring, and could teleport to your spouse's location by touching it...? Hmm... somehow that sounds kind of terrible. (Is it just me? Ehehe♡)
Why I Put a Question Mark After "Legend"
Lineage Classic revived a name from memory, but that world isn't only a comfortable and friendly place. Problems that MMORPGs carry, like slow growth, competition, currency management, and macro enforcement, come along with it.
Conversely, forming relationships in it, such as joining a blood pledge, finding hunting partners, and eyeing castles together, is also this game's long-standing charm.
It's best to see this marriage system as an extension of that. The scene of wearing rings and taking vows at the cathedral is a fun change, but getting close to someone ultimately starts by spending time together.
If you like combat and competition and enjoy the process of cooperating with others, there may be room to form bonds in this old world. Fighting side by side, laughing and crying in sieges and pledge wars over huge stakes, you'll grow attached quickly.
But be sure to remember this. In Lineage, if you don't invest money, you get that much stress.
Someone relaxed enough to laugh it off as if nothing happened after losing out in competition with the person next to them and having a good item taken in a PK is probably playing a game other than Lineage.
The world of Lineage is a scary place where you can feel (?) the reality of Korea, where people live in endless competition, so be careful when you enter ♡
That's all for this post. See you next time.
