She flew from Italy to India, and he got down on one knee in front of the Taj Mahal and held out a ring. The two people in those scenes are Furdean, from India, and his partner, from Italy. They've said they met in Apex Legends.

Furdean's first post went up on September 25, 2022. It wasn't a long one.

It said the two met in Apex Legends, that he's from India and she's from Italy, and that she traveled 6,165 km to see him.

At the end, he thanked Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind the game that brought them together. The two reportedly didn't set out to date. They were friends in the game first, and later became a couple.

Their Main Legend Was Caustic

Apex Legends launched on February 4, 2019. It's a free battle royale shooter set in the same universe as Titanfall. Players pick a 'Legend' with their own abilities, build a squad and jump into the match.

✦ How One Match Runs

From picking a Legend to the last squad standing

1Pick a Legend
Choose a Legend with its own abilities and build a squad
2Gear up
Find weapons, ammo, armor and healing items
3Move with the ring
Reach your next position before the safe zone shrinks
4Fight other squads
Beat the other squads to stay alive
5Last squad standing
The final squad left wins

You scavenge the map for weapons, ammo, armor and healing items, then have to move to your next position before the safe zone, called the 'ring,' shrinks. You fight other squads to stay alive, and the last squad standing wins. That's the basic rule.

A standard team fight puts three players in a squad, though there's also a 'duo' mode where two players pair up.

Apex takes more than good aim. Each Legend has different tactical, passive and ultimate abilities, so everyone adds to the squad in a different way, like finding enemy positions, blocking entrances or protecting teammates.

Fast movement, sliding and using cover matter too.

In a fight, one player draws the enemy's attention while a teammate flanks, or buys time to revive a downed friend. That kind of split-second cooperation decides who wins.

✦ Caustic: Holding Ground With Gas

More terrain-reading than charging in

Nox Gas Trap
• Set it at corridors or building entrances
• Gas spreads when enemies approach or the trap is shot
Nox Gas Grenade
• Ultimate ability
• Spreads gas over a wide area
Role
• Reads the terrain
• Limits enemy movement

Caustic is a Legend who holds an area with poison gas traps. When an enemy walks up to a trap, or a trap gets shot, gas spreads, deals damage and slows movement.

Set one where enemies are likely to pass, like a corridor or a building entrance, and it gets hard for them to push in.

The character is strongest at reading the terrain and limiting what the enemy can do, rather than charging in head first.

✦ The 'Toxic Relationship' Joke

A pun from two Caustic mains

The comment
'You two are going to have a toxic relationship'
Furdean's reply, roughly
'No worries, we can both see through the gas anyway'

The comments on the post had a joke about both of them mainly playing Caustic: 'You two are going to have a toxic relationship.' It's a pun that overlaps Caustic's poison gas with the English phrase 'toxic relationship.'

Furdean answered with something like 'No worries, we can both see through the gas anyway.'

Back then, Caustic could see enemies inside gas. So the joke was that they'd still see each other fine, even while spraying poison gas at one another.

Both of them mained Caustic, but when you play together, only one person can pick that Legend.

So when a user asked who picks Caustic when the two play together, Furdean answered with something like 'She chose me in real life, so in the game I let her pick first.'

Another comment asked how they cut down on lag (ping) when playing together. Furdean said he joins the European server lobby, where his partner is.

A Proposal at the Taj Mahal

✦ The Proposal at a Glance

Where it happened and what came before

✔ Place: In front of the Taj Mahal
✔ The moment: He knelt and held out a ring
✔ Her answer: She said yes
✔ Before the trip: About 7 months of dating

On December 30 of that year, Furdean made a second post. In the photo, he's down on one knee in front of the Taj Mahal, holding out a ring. The post said he handed her the ring and she said yes.

When comments said the proposal came too soon, he replied that they'd been dating for about 7 months before she came to India.

✦ Good to Know: The Taj Mahal

Background on the place

Mughal emperor Shah Jahan
Built for
His wife, Mumtaz Mahal
What it is
A 17th-century white marble mausoleum
Known as
A symbol of eternal love

The Taj Mahal is a 17th-century white marble mausoleum that the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built to honor his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It's also widely known as a place that stands for eternal love.

Furdean said he picked it because he wanted to give her a special memory. And apparently, plenty of couples really do propose there.

That said, proposing didn't end the long-distance part right away. Furdean said they'd have to live apart for now, and that the plan is to settle in India in the long run.

Even after the proposal, the two still had a practical question to settle: which country to live in together.

Still, the farther they had to travel to reach each other, and the more complicated the road, the more I suspect they'll treasure that love for a long time.

Furdean and his partner aren't the only ones. In July 2020, a YouTuber named First Spoken Gaming posted a video about meeting a player called irispixels in Apex Legends.

The two got matched into one squad in a random duo and hit it off quickly. She lived in a different state in the United States at the time. In the end, they met in real life, filmed that day's meetup, and then reportedly sat side by side playing Apex.

After that, First Spoken Gaming proposed to her, and word got out that the two are preparing for a wedding.

Met in a Squad, Together in Real Life

Apex Legends has been out for more than seven years, but it still gets regular updates and keeps putting out plans like season overhauls.

You can team up with strangers anytime, even without friends, so if you're curious, I'd recommend giving it a try.

With shooters like this, what counts isn't who spent more money but quick reflexes and teamwork, so teammates form close bonds easily. If you work up the courage to join a match and say hi first, you can meet good partners easily enough.

By the way, Apex Legends supports a Korean interface and even Korean voice. So there's no language barrier, and you can play comfortably.

That's all for this post. See you next time.
