League of Legends Wedding Gift: Riot's 'We Met Here'

Riot Games' Wedding Card Featured Xayah and Rakan

The gift Riot Games sent to two League of Legends (LoL) players about to get married wasn't skin codes or Riot Points. It was a congratulatory card, plus the words “We met here” engraved on a commemorative plaque with a Summoner's Rift map.

On June 11, 2026, a user named Ironelia shared a story on X: their sister and future brother-in-law had met in League of Legends more than ten years ago. The two were set to marry on June 13.

Ironelia asked Riot Support for a short congratulatory message to mark the special day. What was meant to be a single reply came back as a far more thoughtful gift than anyone expected.

✦ What Was in the Gift

Based on Ironelia's description

✔ Card: Xayah and Rakan theme
✔ Wooden box: The couple's in-game nicknames
✔ Plaque: Summoner's Rift map, “We met here,” and the date they added each other as friends
✔ Messages: Written by Riot staff themselves

According to Ironelia, the gift included a congratulatory card with Xayah and Rakan on it, a wooden box with the couple's in-game nicknames, and a plaque engraved with a Summoner's Rift map.

The plaque carried the words “We met here” and the date they added each other as friends, and Riot staff each wrote a congratulatory message too. They turned the couple's in-game memories into a gift.

✦ Xayah and Rakan

Lovers in the lore, and they can recall together

XayahWarrior dreaming of a Vastayan revolution
Fights with sharp feathers as a ranged damage dealer
RakanCharming Vastayan dancer
A lively, capricious wanderer and a Support

The card said it hoped the couple's hearts would move together “like Xayah and Rakan's recall.” Anyone who knows the game will feel that one. It's a congratulation made just for LoL players.

Xayah and Rakan are champions who are lovers in the LoL lore, and they can join each other's recall.

✦ What Riot's Messages Said

Staff notes, in short

Through the patches
• The two stayed together through many meta shifts
• One patch after another
The wordplay
• A game turned into a love story
• “From champion select to saying ‘Yes’”

The messages also noted that the two stayed together through many meta shifts and one patch after another.

One Riot Games employee congratulated them along the lines of “you turned a game into a love story,” and another threw in a pun: “from champion select to saying ‘Yes.’”

That line ties the moment you pick a champion before the game starts to saying yes to marriage, so it probably landed even harder for LoL players.

Afterward, Ironelia posted a follow-up, “Ils se sont dit oui,” which means the two had exchanged wedding vows, and thanked Riot.

Another Love and Marriage Story That Started in LoL

✦ Two More Stories That Started in LoL

Posted on Reddit

Two players from Season 9
Met in the game, together six years, set to marry
A long-distance couple
American man and Canadian woman who met in the game, engaged after three years

In February 2025, a post on Reddit's LoL forum told the story of a user three days away from their wedding.

The writer was playing Support in a Season 9 solo game when they met a man playing on an alt account. After trading some playful taunts in the match, they added each other as friends, they say.

A few months later, they got on a plane to meet in person. By the time of the post, the two had been together six years, with two dogs and a new home.

One of them moved to a place eight hours from their hometown, and they still play LoL together every day, with a few Duo games every week.

On June 24, 2024, a wedding announcement from an American man and a Canadian woman who met in LoL was posted in a long-distance relationship community. They reportedly got engaged after three years together.

Being long-distance, they could spend only two to four weeks together in a year. But they kept the relationship going by playing games together and having dinner dates over video calls.

A Marriage Like This Began With a Casual Friend Request

✦ The Basic Flow of a Match

How a 5v5 plays out

1Two teams of five
Five players on each side
2Pick champions
Decided before the game starts
3Lanes and jungle
Teamwork in every fight
4Destroy the Nexus
Take down the enemy base first

As you probably know, League of Legends is a 5v5 MOBA where two teams of five try to destroy the other team's base (the Nexus) first.

Players manage lanes and fight over jungle resources, while joining fights and protecting allies, so they have to work as a team.

LoL isn't a game with dating or marriage features between users. But it's a tense game where a split-second call decides who wins, which makes it an ideal place to get close to your teammates.

In the story we started with, what Riot Games engraved on the congratulatory plaque was the date the two added each other as friends. And in the other stories, too, the connection began with a casual friend request.

✦ If You Play LoL

Two small moves

✔ Add a friend: Send a request to someone you enjoyed playing with
✔ Say hi first: Start the conversation yourself

If you play LoL, try being a little braver: add someone as a friend and say hi first. Who knows, maybe that person has been waiting for someone to add them and say something kind. That's how it begins♡

That's all for this post. See you next time.
